DESCRIPTION:La version française suit la présente version anglaise\nThe French version follows the English version \n  \nNational Virtual Roundtables for Migrant Worker Support Organizations will provide professional development opportunities and enhance the capacity of individuals\, and the staff organizations\, institutions and businesses that support migrant workers. The roundtable events are an opportunity to share on regional priorities and service gaps in relation to supporting migrant workers\, while providing a space for those working with and supporting migrant workers to connect and share best practices. \n  \nEvent Details & Registration\nNational Virtual Roundtables for Migrant Worker Support Organizations \n*Participants have the option of attending Day 1 (English only) or 2 (French interpretation provided). \n*Day 3 will be a distinct Professional Development event open to all attendees on the topic of Racism and Hate. Background documents will be sent to you prior to the event. \n*We will be live-tweeting during the event\, follow us on Twitter @amssabc! \n  \nAgenda \nDay 1- October 12\, 2021 – Day 2 – October 13\, 2021\nOn Day 1 (October 12\, 2021) and Day 2 (October 13\, 2021) migrant worker support organizations will learn about current ESDC-funded Projects related to supporting migrant workers. Presentations from the recipient organizations will provide updates on the programs and services provided to migrant workers in regions across Canada.\nFollowing the Day 1 (October 12\, 2021) and Day 2 (October 13\, 2021) presentations\, attendees will have the opportunity to share on regional priorities and service gaps in relation to supporting migrant workers\, while providing a space for those working with and supporting migrant workers to connect and share best practices. Discussions will take place in breakout sessions on Day 1 and a larger group discussion on Day 2. This will be an opportunity for shared learnings and networking with colleagues across the country. \nDay 3 – October 14\, 2021 \nOn Day 3 (October 14\, 2021)\, all attendees are welcome to attend this professional development training session with Dr. Moussa Magassa. The topic we are exploring is racism and hate towards migrant workers communities across Canada. The training answers the following questions: \n\nWhat is racism and hate?\nHow and why how does it manifest in different communities and specifically towards migrant workers?\nHow do experiences of racism and hate impact migrant workers?\nHow can service providers be connectors and bridge the gap between TWFs and the community they reside in?\nHow can service providers support workers when they experience racism from the community?\nWhat are some strategies in getting the community on board and to buy in\n\n  \nNational Virtual Professional Development Speaker\nDr. MOUSSA MAGASSA\, PHD\, IDI.QA| Educator & Facilitator / Researcher\nCEO and Principal of the Intercultural Capacity Building \nDr. Magassa is a UVic human rights educator\, specialist in anti-racism education\, equity\, diversity\, inclusion curriculum design and program development. He also teaches as an associate faculty in the UVic Social Justice Diploma program; the M.A in Global Leadership program at Royal Roads University; the UVic diploma program in intercultural studies & practice; and the UBC Centre for intercultural communication. \nHe holds a PhD in Curriculum and Instruction (UVic) with special focus in critical race theory\, anti-racism education\, EDI framework development in institution/ organizations\, intercultural communication and conflict resolution\, Islamophobia\, human rights discrimination & harassment\, and immigrants and refugees’ integration and adaptation in host communities. \nDr. Magassa is an advisor to various organizations: Resilience BC Anti-racism advisory and strategic planning committee; SFU academic and practitioner advisory committee for the migrant systems Change Leadership Certificate program; Co-chair of the Greater Victoria Police Diversity Advisory Committee; and board director of the Victoria Multifaith Society. Des présentations d’organismes bénéficiaires fourniront des mises à jour sur les programmes et les services offerts aux travailleurs migrants de toutes les régions du Canada. \nÀ la suite de ces présentations\, les participants auront l’occasion de parler des priorités régionales et des lacunes en matière de service touchant le soutien aux travailleurs migrants; les intervenants du milieu auront ainsi l’occasion d’établir des liens et d’échanger des pratiques exemplaires. Des discussions se tiendront pendant les ateliers le Jour 1 et une discussion en grand groupe aura lieu le Jour 2. Dans le passé\, il a aussi été conseiller pour la Table nationale de concertation communautaire en immigration francophone; président de la Société francophone de Victoria; et membre du conseil d’administration de La Fédération des francophones de la Colombie-Britannique.
